Playing Tourist!

I'm off to the UK on September 7th with Shirley a friend from McKendree/ Illinois days who worked with/for Bob.

She wanted to do the UK but with someone who knew it, not a normal tour, so I'm the "non-normal tour guide" and it won't be a "normal" tour!?!  Most of our time will be in London but also includes a long weekend in Oxford and Cotswold areas and end up in Windsor before returning home.

No American-style hotels on this trip as all accommodations are Airbnb so she will have to grocery shop, figure out how to use a cooker/oven with Centigrade settings, use an electric kettle and we'll both struggle figuring out TV remotes.  And last but not least she will have to meet my friends and listen to "good ole day" stories.  

We will be doing a lot of typical tourist things so you will see lots of sights you recognize I'm sure.  We will try not to make the pictures look a bit different and not too posed or American.  

And seems the weather will not be very British!?! It is due to be 89 on Friday when arrive- yikes.  And stays "very warm", as the British say, for a good part of the trip so we will see sunshine 👍

Off to discover and compare two countries "divided" by a common language

Let them eat carbs!

 This is what saw from Conservatory Friday  morning... foggy start to day!  But it soon lifted and sun peaked through. We had picked up Hot Cross Buns, and proper butter, at Aldi's last night so Breakfast was Tea with Toasted and Buttered Hot Cross Buns in the Conservatory.  Then off to Local Farmers Market in Abingdon, just few miles from Bungalow. Small market but some interesting vendors. We bought some pastries for Saturday morning breakfast as sample tasted good :)  Shirley tried some fudge but not impressed. Then off to Oxford. Oxford town centre is now  a pedestrian zone so we used a Park and Ride lot and took shuttle bus into the town. We  walked around visiting shops and colleges of the University.... As a Pedestrian Zone you get entertainers... It was Open Day at colleges so lots of people around.  We saw some of Lincoln, Trinty and Exeter College. Dining Hall and Chapel of Exeter College.. We had booked an Afternoon Tea at Old Parsonage...

Again and breaks record

Another, hot and steamy day in ole London Town.  Six straight days of 30c + temperatures is record breaking! An early start today as attended the 8am Holy Communion Service at Westminster Abbey Then time to head to The Tower, via Uber Boat! Mechanical problems with boat and had to change boats half way there! But it got us to the Pier right by Tower and Tower Bridge. The Tower has a Royal Chapel and we attended the 11am Sung Matins Service for which you can obtain a special entry card  Luckily had taken early boat as unsure about timing and obtaining entry.  As bit early we were able to walk around outside Chapel and take in Tower and Ravens.  Lovely service with amazing choir and organist.  After chuch met up with friend who joined us for lunch at Katherine's Dock. Kensington Palace and surrounding area!

 If you know it will be a busy day best to plan ahead and load up on protein!  After all, as your mother told you, Breakfast most important meal of day. And hard to beat an English breakfast... And off we go to the Victoria and Albert Museum.  So many collections of all shapes and sizes hard to choose but didn't have a week to spare to see everything! No matter where look beautiful and interesting displays.... Then quick bus ride,  walk through Park and Voila a Palace is in front of you!  Friends Val and Linda joined us again so they could clarify any "British" questions!  Kinda crazy eclectic exhibit on comparing 18th Century Dress to modern dress!?!  And of course so interesting seeing where Victoria grew up and learning more about her and reign.   And of course had to visit sunken Gardens and Diana statue.  Kensington Palace was where Lady Diana's lived... Then off to Harrods to see how other half live... As our legs definitely feelin...
